It was an unopposed election, Collen Malatji has been elected as the new president of the ANC Youth League.
Over 2,000 delegates voted for Malatji, while his contender – Aphiwe Mkhangelwa declined the nomination at the last minute.
The election which was held on Saturday saw Colleen Malatji election as the new president unopposed.
Phumzile Mgcina from KwaZulu-Natal was elected the league’s first female deputy president.

Born on 18 March 1993 in Tembisa in the former Transvaal Province, Collen Malatji is the new president of the ANC Youth League. He is the youngest member on the ruling party’s MP candidate list. He is passionate about black pride and education.
Collen is a municipal governance graduate from the University of Johannesburg. He also bagged a social sciences degree at Wits University.
At age 13, he joined 13 the Congress of South African Students in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, with not the faintest idea that he could one day be heading to parliament.
Malatji achieved a lot in his 13 years in the political field, having held positions as Cosas regional secretary in Ekurhuleni, ANC Youth League branch chairperson, Cosas Gauteng provincial secretary and NEC member, and Cosas president and deputy chairperson of the ANCYL in Ekurhuleni.
In 2018 he was among the Mail & Guardian newspaper’s 200 influential young people in SA and the City of Ekurhuleni’s 100 shining stars.
