Teenager From Mitchells Plain Arrested For The Murder Of Western Cape Magistrate Romay Van Rooyen

The alleged murderer was caught at his home in Mitchells Plain early on Tuesday, 27 September. The arrest comes days after van Rooyen was buried by friends and family.
Van Rouen was found dead in her home in Marina da Gama on September 10th. Her judge allegedly strangled her and her car was stolen from the scene. Police found the vehicle on Mitchells Plain, which helped investigators track down the crime to an 18-year-old suspect, EWN reported.
Van Rooyen was a popular member of the South African judicial system. She started her prosecutorial career in 1997 before becoming a prosecutor at the High Court of the Western Cape.
Police Minister Beki Sele visited the deceased judge’s family after the killing, according to the IOL. Sere said the attack on South Africa’s magistrates was an attack on the entire judicial system and, ultimately, on the provinces.
The teenage suspect is expected to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 September.
