The R86 million Lotto jackpot has been won by a street vendor from Cape Town.
The man came forward to claim his rewards, according to national lottery operator Ithuba, after discovering on Sunday that he had won from a ticket he had purchased at Shoprite in Durbanville. He had chosen manually when he had played.
When the winner realized he had won, they immediately prayed and thanked God.
“Only my wife and kids are aware that we have triumphed.
I mix my numbers every time I play the lottery, which I do twice a month. This time, I chose to play Lotto only rather than the other games since I trusted my intuition.
“I have never won this much money before; the most I won from a game was R450.
“All my life I have dreamt of winning a big jackpot, and now I can build a house from my family.”
In his spare time, he gives motivational talks at schools.
I can now start to relax, he said in response to the question of what one thing he would do now that he hadn’t been able to do before.
The winner was greeted by Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza, who also said: “It is even more significant when people win our jackpots and realize their aspirations.”
