A truck crashes through a school fence in Potchefstroom, killing five children

On Thursday in Potchefstroom, North West province, a truck slammed through a school fence, killing five children and injuring several others.
Five kids between the ages of 5 and 13 were killed after being struck by a truck, according to the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.
“This occurred on the N12, a short distance from Potchefstroom. Six more students suffered injuries and were taken directly to the hospital.
According to allegations, a truck driver lost control and plowed into students who were waiting by the school gate, according to department spokesperson Boitshoko Moremi.
Sello Lehari, the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, expressed his sorrow over the horrific tragedy.
“This is a catastrophe, in fact. These kids might have grown up to become our future leaders. The news of the loss severely saddens us as a government.
“We sincerely hope that you may find consolation during this difficult time and accept our sympathies. We also wish the injured a quick recovery,” he stated.
The investigation of a case of culpable homicide has begun.
According to ER24 paramedics, the truck slammed through the school’s gate before coming to a rest in the parking lot.
“Approximately 10 kilometers west of Potchefstroom, on the N12, ER24 and a number of other agencies responded to the site. “When they arrived, the vehicle was parked close to a number of tiny container structures,” said spokesman Russel Meiring.
“After closer examination, the medics discovered three kids resting beneath the truck as numerous more were gathered around it. According to him, the children were all between the ages of 7 and 11.
Four of the kids were discovered by medical personnel to be lifeless. Sadly, there was nothing that could be done for them; they were eventually pronounced dead.
“Two other children had severe injuries, and three additional kids were in critical condition. The patients were treated by doctors, who also gave them enhanced life support. Unfortunately, one seriously injured child passed away from their injuries shortly after.
The truck’s driver did not sustain any wounds.
