Sihle Zikalala informed the provincial ANC leadership of his decision to resign on Thursday.
After some consideration, the executive committee granted his request (PEC)
Zikalala has also met with President Ramaphosa over the last weekend to notify him of his choice.
The board decided on names for a potential Zikalala successor during yesterday’s PEC virtual meeting, including finance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube and ANC MPLs Mbali Fraser and Amanda Bani.
The three names were submitted for approval to the party’s headquarters at Johannesburg’s Luthuli House. As Zikalala’s replacement includes a woman premier of KwaZulu-Natal who is therefore likely to be elected.
At the time of publication, ANC KwaZulu-Natal secretary Bheki Mtolo had not provided any remarks.
Zikalala was not selected for the PEC that was chosen during the ANC provincial conference last month.
On Sunday, he agreed to be nominated as an extra member of the structure after Sboniso Duma defeated him by more than 200 votes for the chair post.
