A mountain climber has been reported dead when a rockfall and avalanche took place on Sunday morning near Mount Meeker.

The deceased climber in the company of two other persons who were severally injured was said to have taken an adventure on the rocky hill Mountain National Park.

The incident was reported at exactly 9 am local time, according to the National Park Service.

“Three individuals were involved in the incident including a female and two males,” Kyle Patterson, park spokesperson, said in a statement.

A search and rescue operation was set out by the Rocky Mountain National Park department with help from the Colorado Search Rescue Association alongside the Flight for Life and several others.

“Rescue teams are working in terrain above 11,500 feet and are experiencing winter-like weather conditions,” NPS said.
