The UAE President, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has died.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman died on Friday at the age of 73.

According to a source, a time of mourning will begin today and last for the following 40 days.

According to WAM, the Presidential Affairs Ministry stated that flags will be flown at half-mast. Work in federal and municipal ministries and government agencies, as well as the business sector, will be stopped for three days beginning immediately.

Khalifa bin Zayed is the eldest son of the UAE’s founding leader, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

He has been the president of the UAE and the 16th emir of Abu Dhabi since 2004, when he was elected president for the second time in the UAE’s history.

He has been in that position for more than 17 years.

 

Sheikh Khalifa was born in 1948 at Al Muwaiji Fort, Al Ain.

Khalifa Bin Zayed Bin Sultan Bin Zayed Bin Khalifa Bin Shakhbout Bin Theyab Bin Nahyan bin Falah bin Yas is his full name. He is the eldest son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who passed away in 2011. Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is his mother.

The Al bu Falah subgroup of the Bani Yas tribal confederation and the Al Nahyan ruling dynasty had a stronghold in the Al Muwaiji hamlet.

Sheikh Khalifa is from the Bani Yas tribe. Bani Yas is the mother tribe of most of the Arab tribes that settled in what is now the United Arab Emirates, a region known historically as the ‘Bani Yas Alliance.’
The beginning

Sheikh Khalifa and his family lived at Al Muwaiji Fort in Al Ain. He attended school at Al Ain, where his father constructed the city’s first school.
