The search for a former Alabama corrections officer, Vicki White has been halted after news of her death was made public.

Vicki, who fell in love with a convict named Cassey White whom she assisted in escaping from jail, died late Monday night at Deaconess hospital at 19:06 hrs CST, according to sources.

Officials have not revealed the circumstances surrounding her death, however, a source from the US Marshals office told CBS News that authorities suspect Vicky White died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

According to an earlier report by People.com, When police followed up on a citizen tip that led them to an Evansville Hotel, they found Casey and Vicky, who are not related but purportedly had a love relationship. The culprits left the scene, setting off a police chase that culminated in a vehicle accident.

Vicky White, 56, and Casey White, 38, were later arrested by authorities in Evansville, Indiana, following a car chase with authorities that resulted in an accident.

Officers were able to free the convict from the destroyed car, but Vicky White was stuck inside and suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Who Is Casey White?

Casey was charged with double murder in 2020 after allegedly killing Connie Jane Ridgeway, 59, who was discovered dead in her living room in Rogersville, Alabama, in October 2015. According to AL.com, Ridgeway’s death was characterized as a rental murder. He is being detained at the Lauderdale County Detention Center after entering a not guilty plea.

Vicky, the deputy director of prisons at the Lauderdale County Jail, reportedly deported Casey on April 29. Vicky allegedly informed authorities she would take the prisoner to court for a mental health evaluation, but no such appointment was made.
