Is Adrian Payne Dead? What Happened To Him? Information making rounds the social media has it that Former Michigan State basketballer, Adreian Payne has passed away at the age of 31.

The Ex Michigan State men’s basketball star was reported to have died today May 9, 2022. Circumstances surrounding his sudden demise have not been made known to the public at the time of filing this report.

Update: Adreian Payne was shot and killed at block of Egret Shores Drive on May 9, 2022. The shooter identified as Lawrence Dority is currently in custody.

Payne, a native of Dayton, Ohio, was a standout at Michigan State from 2010 to 2014. He was named to the All-Big Ten team twice. Payne is most known for his bond with Lacey Holsworth, a young cancer-stricken girl.

He attended Michigan State from 2010 until 2014. He was the Atlanta Hawks’ first-round choice in the 2014 NBA Draft, going No. 15 overall. Payne later played for the Hawks, Timberwolves, and Magic, among others.

On Monday, May 9, 2022, the Detroit Free Press reported about the sad passing of a Former Michigan State basketballer. The report stated the sportsman died at the age of 31.

The report did not state his cause of death. The family is yet to release an official statement.

Adrien Payne was a professional American basketballer. His last basketball feature was with the Juventus Utena of the Lithuanian Basketball League. He played college basketball for Michigan State University.

Payne attended Michigan State University from 2010 until 2014. He was the Atlanta Hawks’ first-round choice in the 2014 NBA Draft, going No. 15 overall.

Born in Dayton in 1991, Payne graduated from Jefferson High in 2010.

Payne averaged 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game as a freshman, appearing in 34 games. He was diagnosed with persistent diminished lung capacity during that year, a condition that limits his stamina.

He led the team in blocks (39) and finished eighth in the Big 10 in his sophomore season. He averaged 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 37 games (36 starts). He was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team.

His employment path changed in 2018. Payne competed in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for Panathinaikos Athens (2018, 2019) and ASVEL Villeurbanne (2019-20).

He appeared in 29 duels in the strongest continental competition, averaging 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 7.2 points per possession.

He also played for Ormanspor in Turkey and the Nanjing Monkey Kings in China. His most recent assignment was with Juventus Utena in Lithuania for the 2021-22 season. In February of this year, he parted company with the club.

Adreian gained international attention in 2014 when he intertwined with a girl’s [Lacey Holsworth] cancer struggle.

After the 2013-14 Michigan State Spartans men’s basketball team won the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, Holsworth, who fought neuroblastoma, followed Payne to center court on Senior Night and assisted him in cutting down the nets.

On April 8, 2014, Holsworth, commonly known as “Princess Lacey,” died of cancer.
