Court grants Zondo commission extra time to finalize outstanding reports

The Zondo Commission has been granted yet another delay to complete the State inquiry on pending reports.
According to media sources, the commission’s chairperson, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, had earlier requested a six-week extension to allow the commission to complete the final section of the report.
Investigations involving prominent agencies and government-owned properties such as the SABC, the State Security Agency, the Waterkloof landing, an associate of the Gupta family, Estina Dairy Farm, and the South African Passenger Rail Agency were included in the reports.
While a lot of ground had been covered, Zondo stated they hadn’t been able to finish part five of the report yet and wouldn’t be able to by the end of April.
Judge Anthony Millar said he was satisfied that a case had been established for the remedy requested, which is an extension until June 15, 2022, after reviewing the reports.
Millar also pointed out that three of the respondents had submitted notifications of intent to comply, while the remainder had not.
The lawsuit was previously put on hold to see whether anyone objected to the extension.
The court has yet to receive any notices of opposition.
