Following the deaths of two of their country’s football players as a result of the Russian invasion, there has been a period of quiet and sorrow among the Ukrainian football community.

Vitalii Sapylo and Dmytro Martynenko were two well-known Ukrainian footballers. According to sources, Vitalii was murdered while resisting invading soldiers in Kiev, while Dmytro Martynenko perished together with his mother after a bomb exploded near their home.

The first two Ukrainian players, Vitalii Sapylo, 21, and Dmytro Martynenko, 25, died as a result of the conflict in Eastern Europe in the previous few hours, according to the International Union of International Soccer Players (FIFPRO).

” Our sympathies are with the families, friends, and teammates of Vitalii Sapylo and Dmytro Martynenko, two young Ukrainian footballers who became the first two confirmed football casualties in this war.

“Rest in peace,” the entity said on social media, citing the comments of the body led by David Aganzo, president of the Association of Spanish Soccer Players.

The footballers competed in non-professional competitions. Vitalii Sapylo died in Kiev as a result of Russian soldiers entering his country’s capital, while Dmytro Martynenko perished in his house with his mother after a bomb exploded.

FIFPRO yesterday joined other sports organizations in calling for the Russian Football Federation to be suspended and for assistance in evacuating innocent people trapped in the heart of the conflict, which began on February 24 with the Russian army’s invasion into Ukrainian territory.

furthermore, five people were killed in a Russian military strike on the Kiev television tower, which was denounced by Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelensky. The attack also damaged a memorial commemorating the death of thousands of Jews by Nazism.

According to early statistics, five persons were murdered and five others were injured in the incident, which also resulted in the stations’ broadcasts being disrupted, according to the Ukrainian official agency for emergency circumstances on Facebook.

The attack, on the sixth day of the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, “touched” tower equipment, the Interior Ministry said. “ The channels will not work for some time ”, but the “ relief ” systems will make it possible for some television stations to restore their broadcasting soon , added the official.

The television tower is in the same neighborhood as the Babi Yar site, a place where the Nazis committed a massacre against Jews during World War II. This place is currently an important memorial built-in 2016.

On the official page of the memorial they recall that ” between 1941 and 1943, the Nazis shot between 70,000 and 100,000 people in Babyn Yar , including almost the entire Jewish population of Kiev , making it a significant point on the devastating map of the Holocaust”.

The Ukrainian president, meanwhile, condemned the attack through a message on his Twitter account: “ To the world: What is the use of saying never again for 80 years, if the world remains silent when a bomb falls on it ? Babyn Yar site? At least five dead. History is repeating itself…

For his part, the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Andriï Iermak , also expressed his rejection through the social network: “ These barbarians are massacring the victims of the Shoah for the second time ”.
