Lionel Messi, the star of Paris Saint-Germain, returned to Barcelona on Monday night after a year away.

According to the Daily Mail, the PSG striker returned to Barcelona to celebrate Barca manager Xavi Hernandez’s 42nd birthday with former colleagues Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

Messi was just left out of Argentina’s World Cup qualifying squads against Chile and Colombia.

His country’s place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year is all but secured, so he made the most of his free time by jetting back to Barcelona, where he made his name as one of the greatest football players of all time.

When he was departing, some Barcelona fans gathered outside to meet him.

After leaving Xavi’s birthday feast, Messi stopped to sign jerseys from his previous team for the supporters.

During his tenure at Camp Nou, the Argentine captain was a former teammate of Xavi’s.
