Steven Alston Jr. a 17-year-old Magruder High student has been charged in school shooting.

Steven, an 11th grader, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony/violent crime, possession of a dangerous weapon on school premises, and possession of a firearm by a child, according to authorities.

School security heard of an incident inside a bathroom at Colonel Zadok Magruder High School about 12:53 p.m., according to authorities.

Around 12:57 p.m., a junior student was discovered shot and 911 was contacted. At 1:05 p.m., the school at 5939 Muncaster Mill Road went into full lockdown.

The building was secured by both Montgomery County Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 3 p.m., the suspect was discovered inside the school. That student was also caught carrying a pistol.

“An incident at Magruder High School is being investigated by the MCPD. One of the students was hurt and was taken to a nearby hospital “Shortly after 7News learnt of the event, police sent a tweet.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is undergoing surgery right now.

The student is in serious condition after surgery, according to authorities, but is expected to live.

Inside the school, a privately produced firearm (ghost gun) was discovered, which is thought to be the weapon used by Alston, Jr.

There is no proof that Alston, Jr. was aiming his gun at anybody else at the school.
