Two kids among the nine individuals killed in a car crash along N2 near Makhanda
What a heartbreaking story, On Sunday evening, a devastating head-on collision between two minibuses on Makhanda’s N2 route claimed the lives of nine people two persons among the victims were teenagers.
According to sources, the accident occurred as one of the taxis was travelling from Gqeberha to Mthatha with two passengers, while the other was travelling from Tsolo to Mossel Bay and was fully laden.
Two women, three men, and two children, ages one and four, perished in the Mthatha-bound cab, while two women, three men, and two children, aged one and four, died in the other taxi.
Unathi Binqose, a spokeswoman for the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, said the fatalities were the most ever reported in a single accident over the Christmas season.
MEC for Transportation Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe expressed alarm over yet another head-on incident involving minibus taxis.
Six persons were killed and nine others were injured in a head-on accident involving two minibus taxis on the N9 between Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen about 10 p.m. on Friday.
The MEC asked motorists to be patient on the road and to drive cautiously.
