A violent hailstorm stormed through Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday, leaving a layer of white on the ground in certain areas.

When hailstones pummeled down the city roads, what began as gentle rain quickly evolved into a big storm, causing roads to flood and automobiles to be destroyed.

This happened on Wednesday afternoon, the hailstorm blasted into a major city, blanketing portions of the KZN metropolis in white.

The torrential rains came after the SA Weather Service issued a level two weather warning for KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

On the N3 and M7 motorways, a number of major accidents have been recorded, and the bad weather is predicted to last until 11 p.m.
