Who Was Terry Uttley? What Happened To Him? The Smokie fans were thrown into a morning state following the shocking death news of the band’s bass guitarist, Terry Uttley. The news came as a shock to fans who never expected to hear such information at the moment. Reports from the band’s management confirmed that the legendary guitarist passed away on December 16 2021 at the age of 70 barely a month after losing his wife to cancer.

Who Was Terry Uttley? Few Things You Need To Know About Him!


Not much was said about him on the open internet and no Wikipedia page was created in his name Terry Uttley was a talented bass guitarist who grew his notability through Smokie after joining the band at the beginning of 1965.

Terry officially joined the Smokie band in June 1968, Terry Uttley as a replacement for Arthur Higgins, who had left the band in order to carry on his education. During that time the group had their first TV appearance on Yorkshire Television’s news and magazine show Calendar and a year later the four performed two songs for the BBC show High Jinx.

Terry’s last music appearance was in 1983 when the band members Alan Alison, Chris Norman alongside Terry Uttley collaborated with Agnetha Fältskog, singing together on the track “Once Burned Twice Shy” from her first English language solo album entitled Wrap Your Arms Around Me.

The band went awol in 1983 and all members of the group parted way, Chris established his own musical career while Terry Uttley went on to play bass for several other groups including Peter Goalby and John Coghlan (ex Status Quo drummer).

They made a comeback in 1989 and shared the same stage together. Before his death, Terry was the only last remaining original member who was still actively featured with the band.

What Was Terry Uttley Cause Of Death?

Terry Uttley was reported to have died on December 16 2021 at the age of 70. An official statement was released by the Smokie band about his sad demise. At the time of filing this report, his cause of death or what killed him was not disclosed to the public, though Smokie said in their latest update that he passed away after a brief illness. The nature of the illness was not explained.

The statement reads:- It is with very heavy hearts and tear-filled eyes that we share the news that our beloved friend and bandmate, Terry, has passed away after a short illness.

Steve, Martin, Mick and Pete are devastated and deeply saddened by his sudden and unexpected passing. Terry was a dear friend, a loving father, and was an incredible person and musician.

We all feel extremely lucky to have shared such a long lifetime and the stage with him. Peace and love to all who knew Terry, and those he touched. We will miss him dearly.

Terry Uttley Family, Who Was His Wife?

Though the talented Guitarist kept his family and anything relating to him in private. Terry Utterly was happily married to his loving wife, Shirly and sadly last month, November 17, 2021, he lost his wife to cancer. Following the death of his wife, Terry kicked off the fight against cancer and had made supportive donations to people struggling with the deadly disease.
