Information reaching our news desk has it that popular South African Standup comedian, Radio Jockey and Actor, Neville Pillay has sadly passed away at the age of 45. The former ECR and Lotus FM presenter was reported to have died today September 22 2021.
No cause of death has been disclosed to the public but the legendary actor has been battling with illness for a long time now and has been seeking financial help to keep him fit and come back to his normal life, sadly he succumbed to the illness.
Neville was multitalented and creatively very gifted. Apart from his outstanding ability on-air, Neville was a popular comedian, a skilled and experienced MC, a talented songwriter (Master of the twisted tune) and an accomplished actor. When I returned to Durban after my stay at Jacaranda 94.2, we reconnected at Lotus FM where he hosted the very successful breakfast show.
Neville Pillay Suffered Heart Attack In 2019
In 2019, The former radio personality Neville Pillay suffered a heart attack and a mild stroke, which resulted in him being partially sighted.
The illness resulted in Type 2 diabetes and Pillay’s kidneys were failing. At that time, Neville needed serious medical as he had only months to live.
“Neville has been a diabetic for about 20 years.
According to his wife, Carol, after he suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a government hospital, the staff did not inform them his kidneys were giving up.
“Within two months, his weight blew up from 70kg to 110kg, with 40% of that being water retention. We managed to consult with a nephrologist (kidney specialist) in private practice. He confirmed Neville’s kidneys were in its last stages and he would need dialysis at least three times a week.”
After two years off from airwaves, Neville returned back in November 2019 and joined t6he Breakfast Club team on Megazone Bollywood on 104.8FM. He said he’s coming back on airwaves “Feels like second nature”.
Neville was first diagnosed with diabetes 13 years ago when he was 28 years old. He was told by his doctor that he was at higher risk for diabetes because of his family history.

Neville Pillay aka Top dan worked with the national radio station, Lotus FM. He hosted the breakfast show weekdays from 7 to 10 am.
He was known for his offbeat twisted tunes, humorous scam calls and general mayhem on air.
Off the radio scene, Neville Pillay also did pretty well as an actor. He starred in a few Indian movies; Attack of the Indian werewolf, 31 Million Reasons and Curry and Vice.
He leaves behind his partner, Karol and their daughters.
