Tributes flooded social media after the sad demise of Alan Charles Lancaster, an English bassist and a notable member of the English rock band Status Quo. The report says Alan passed away in the early hours of today September 26 2021 at the age of 72.
Reports from sources further explained that the British born music royalty, guitar God and founding member of the iconic band, Status Quo departed the mother earth at his Sydney home, surrounded by family.
No cause of death was disclosed to the public but could be recalled that Alan for some time now has been dealing with Multiple Sclerosis.
Status Quo began Rockin’ All Over The World in 1967. The legendary band amassed decades of hit songs, including Down Down and Whatever You Want. Alan married his beautiful wife Dayle Lancaster in 1978.
They met when Alan and Status Quo, along with Slade and Lindisfarne, toured Australia in 1973. Alan, who was a dear and special friend, is survived by Dayle, his children Alan Jr, Toni and David, plus five grandchildren. Dayle said this morning that Alan loved his life in Australia.
His mother and father, plus his brother and sister also moved to Australia. Dayle said: ‘we are all heartbroken. Alan had a wonderful wit and a fabulously dry sense of humour.
He was a devoted and adoring husband, father and grandfather. The family was always his focus.’ Despite having MS and issues with his mobility, Alan participated in hugely successful reunion tours in the UK & Europe in 2013 & 2014. He bravely played to thousands of adoring fans.
In 1998 the music icon formed The Bombers in Sydney with The Angels’ guitarist John Brewster. Brewster and Lancaster later had the Lancaster Brewster Band with Angry Anderson as their occasional singer.
Alan was also a member of the Australian supergroup The Party Boys in 1987. They had a couple of hits with covers of ‘Hold Your Head Up’ and ‘He’s Gonna Step On You Again’.

There was no official statement released by family or management about his cause of death, multiple sources had revealed that the singer for a very long has been battling with Multiple Sclerosis ( a condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance). He was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2002 at that time frailing and his legs were a bit shaky. He had started lifting weights and eating himself into shape.
In 2013, Alan disclosed that he lost all feeling in his thumb and struggled to play his instrument after an allergic reaction to hair dye.
While colouring his hair one day, the founding member of the legendary band found himself suffering from painful burns after the chemicals in the dye brought out a horrible reaction
The incident caused him to lose 28 pounds (12.7 kilograms) from his weight, as well as all feelings in his right thumb. The latter had a negative effect on his career, as he struggled to play the bass that brought him to the limelight of the entertainment industry.

He formed the band group in 1962 together with his then schoolmate Francis Rossi. His final performance as a full-time member of Status Quo was at Wembley Stadium on 13 July 1985 for the opening of Live Aid. In March 2013 he collaborated with his old bandmates for a series of “Frantic Four” concerts in the UK, which all sold out.
Alan and Dayle were wedded in 1976, they had two grownup children. He is also has a son from his first marriage.
The legendary bass player moved to Australia with second wife Dayle at the height of status Quo’s success to escape the drink and drug problems ravaging the band at that time.
