The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked a Hamas military complex and a rocket launch site, in response to continued incendiary balloon launches from Gaza throughout the day.
The rocket launch site was located very close to a civilian environment, a further example of how the Hamas group continues to endanger Palestinian civilians.
The IDF will continue to respond vigorously to terrorist efforts broadcasting from the Gaza Strip.
Incendiary balloons launched from the Palestinian enclave of Gaza on Friday sparked four fires in Israel, according to a statement from Israeli firefighters.
On July 25, the last time such balloons were sent from Gaza causing fires, Israel responded with airstrikes against the alleged positions of Hamas, the armed Islamist movement that rules the Palestinian territory.
Four fires broke out in the Eshkol area near Gaza on Friday, according to Israeli firefighters, and experts concluded that the source of the fires was “incendiary balloons.”
On Friday afternoon, firefighters were still trying to control the flames .
Israel holds Hamas responsible for all the actions carried out from the Gaza enclave towards its territory, under an Israeli blockade for 15 years and where some 2 million inhabitants live.
Since May 21, the date of entry into force of a ceasefire that ended a blitzkrieg between Hamas and Israel, there have been sporadic incidents, including launchings of these types of balloons from Gaza and retaliatory Israeli airstrikes.
From May 10 to 21, 260 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip , including fighters, according to local authorities.
In Israel, rocket fire from Gaza killed 13, including one soldier, according to police and the army.
This Friday, the Israeli army also carried out attacks against Lebanon in response to rockets launched from that neighboring country, claimed by the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah movement.
” The Israeli army is attacking the launching sources (of the rockets) in Lebanon, ” said a military statement, shortly after 19 projectiles were fired in the direction of the Hebrew state, most of them intercepted by Israeli forces. Of the 19, 10 were intercepted by air defenses, six hit open areas and three landed in Lebanon .
