Roxane Gay’s Brother Joel Gay Has Passed Away



CEO of Energy Recovery, which makes gear that recycles energy for, among other companies, those in the fracking industry, Joel Gay has sadly passed away. According to the information posted on social media, Joel was reported to have died on Sunday 18 July 2021.

Circumstances surrounding death was not made known to the public at the time of filing this report.

Joel became the CEO of Energy Recovery in 2015 and was among one of the youngest black CEOs of a ­public company and was able to usher in a game-changing deal with oil services giant Schlumberger

His sister a prolific writer and author of Difficult Women, Hunger, World of Wakanda, An Untamed State, Bad Feminist, Ayiti took to her official Facebook page to announce his death.

Who Is Joey Gay?

Joel Gay was the CEO of Energy Recovery and one of the top 10 CEO’s fortune. He joined the Energy Recovery company in January 2012 and in June 2014 he was made the Chief Financial Officer. He is a brother to talented writer Roxane Gay.

Joel has held several positions at the company, including most recently serving as Vice President of Finance. Prior to joining Energy Recovery, Mr Gay held various roles at the Aegion Corporation (NASDAQ:AEGN), most notably as the CFO of the largest division (North America).

He has also held several positions within the Service Master companies and began his career in entrepreneurial finance where he led a start-up to a successful liquidity event. Mr Gay brings more than a decade of experience in leading multiple corporate disciplines in global small-cap and large-cap companies with innovative and quantitatively rigorous discipline.
In addition to his role as CFO of Energy Recovery, Mr Gay serves on the board of GDG Constructors as an Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee.

Joel received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas University and his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas University.
