WBZ Video Editing Crew Chief, Jim Murphy Has Passed Away



The WBZ are mourning the death of their longtime colleague, James Murphy who reportedly passed away on July 20 21. Announcing Jim’s in a live broadcast, the WBZ CBS staff said died suddenly overnight but did not disclose his cause of death. They described him as the best of best with great talent as an editor.

Jim was respected by his co-workers and the large broadcast community in New England. He was such a peaceful and talented person who was much too young to leave the planet.

He was an editor/Photojournalist for the fast-paced newsroom, with timeline driven deadlines for live TV and Internet Broadcasts. Worked closely with reporters and producers to create outstanding content from concept to finished product.

Reacting to his death WBZ editor, Andrea Courtois via her official Facebook page said Jim was a cherished colleague.

We lost a great person today here at WBZ. My condolences to Jim Murphy’s family and friends. He was cherished here at BZ and we’ll never be the same but we’re better to have known him; she wrote on her FB page.

Jim Murphy was Award-winning, experienced, and versatile storyteller with a zeal for creativity known for outstanding video
production. Murphy has the ability to direct, shoot, edit and handle post-production for a variety of different audiences and channels while working in a fast-paced, tight deadline environment.

He was a three-time New England Emmy Award Winner, 2018 Winner of Best Sports Feature from Massachusetts Broadcasters Association.

James Murphy graduated with BA in Communications and film studies certificate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA.

Jim worked as a photographer, audio tech, editor, and producer while on locations at several high-profile sporting events including Super Bowls, World Series, Stanley Cups, and the Boston Marathon.

He left behind his beautiful wife, Stacey and two children, Quinn (9) and Gavin (10).
