The Taiwanese Defense Ministry denounced that seven Chinese fighter jets surpassed the Taiwanese Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on Thursday.
The raid comes just two days after 28 Chinese aircraft did the same on Tuesday, the most in a single day since Taiwan began publicizing these raids last September.
According to a defense statement issued last night, this time it involved two J-16 fighters, four J-7 fighters and a Y-8 reconnaissance aircraft.
The Taiwanese Air Force issued radio warnings and mobilized its units until Chinese planes left the area, the note added.
The number of Chinese military aircraft entering the Taiwanese ADIZ has increased in recent months – up to six times in the last month, according to the CNA agency – and the latest sorties come after the G7 (the group of the most developed countries) mentioned in a statement “the preservation of stability in the Taiwan Strait” as one of its priorities.
China on Monday condemned the G7 communiqué agreed upon after its last summit in Carbis Bay (UK), stating that it “distorts the facts” on various issues, including Taiwan, “to deliberately defame China.”
Tensions between Beijing and Taipei increased considerably during the term of former US President Donald Trump, who prioritized strengthening relations with Taiwan, including arms sales, despite the fact that in 1979 Washington broke its relations with Taipei, which became in informal after recognizing the People’s Republic.
Last April, Joe Biden’s government reaffirmed its support for the island during a meeting held in Taipei by three former senior US officials with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen , to which Beijing responded with military exercises in the area.
Taiwan is considered a sovereign territory with its own government and political system under the name of the Republic of China since the end of the civil war between nationalists and communists in 1949, but Beijing maintains that it is a rebellious province and insists that it return to what it is. called common homeland.
