Breaking News: Brush fire hits south of Carson City off Jacks Valley Road, now at 30 acres

Resources are on the scene of a wildfire located off of Jacks Valley Road behind the Target in Carson City. The estimated size is 30 acres, 0% contained. Structure protection is in place and multiple cooperating agencies are on scene.

A fast-moving brush fire closed Jacks Valley Road pushed by high winds.

Emergency personnel initiated evacuations of the neighbourhood east of the fire, including residents of Arcadia, Cherokee, Pawnee, Green Acres and Shawnee drives south of Jacks Valley Road. Deputies and members of Douglas County Search and Rescue were tasked with alerting residents.

 

An evacuation center has been established at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Residents are asked to leave the area of the fire immediately.

The county also issued an emergency alert and will issue a Reverse 911 call.

The fire started around 4:30 p.m. along the road near Bavarian Drive and was burning east up the hill.

A command post set up at Jacks Valley Elementary School was moved to the Jacks Valley Target as the fire moved south of the school.

East Fork firefighters responded to the blaze, calling out a second alarm and seeking aid from surrounding agencies.

Units were seeking to access the fire from Indian Hills and Jacks Valley.

Reports say Emergency evacuations have started for the Jacks Valley area, according to the East Fork Fire Protection District.

Several neighbouring fire agencies are responding.

The wildfire has closed the Road near U.S. 395 between Carson City and Genoa, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

The fire is burning west of Highway 395 and south of Carson City near Jacks Valley Elementary School.

Emergency crews have been dispatched to the area. The U.S. Forest Service and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District are assisting.

The fire is west of Jacks Valley Elementary School. Evacuations for the Jacks Valley area is now in place.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) says Jacks Valley Road near US-395 is closed in both directions. US-395 is still open but drivers should use caution in the area.

The fire is estimated to be 30 acres large now and 0% contained.

Structure protection is in place.

Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue is on scene, along with crews from East Fork Fire Protection District.
