RIP Tawny Kitaen. Sad to learn of the passing of a true 80’s icon. From film to @Whitesnake videos to the cover of
@theRATTpack albums a true legend. Condolence to family, friends and fans.

Born Julie Kitaen in San Diego, California, in 1961, the daughter of Linda Kitaen (née Taylor), a housewife and a former beauty pageant participant, and Terry Kitaen, an employee of a neon sign company.

Kitaen was of Jewish heritage, Kitaen began using the nickname “Tawny” at the age of 12 on her own initiative.

She went to her first rock concert at age 14 where she saw Peter Frampton at Balboa Stadium.

There she and her girlfriends were given backstage passes, and upon seeing the All-Access VIP treatment that Frampton’s girlfriend Penny got, she aspired to this herself.

Starting her modelling and acting career at an early age, Kitaen in 1983 with a minor role in the television movie Malibu became a popular tv trend.

In 1984, she starred as the title character of the erotic-adventure movie The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak, also called Gwendoline.

Other appearances included Bachelor Party (1984) as the bride-to-be of Tom Hanks’ character,a starring role in the minor box office hit Witchboard (1986), White Hot and Dead Tides.

Kitaen appeared in several videos in the 1980s for the band Whitesnake, including the hits “Here I Go Again”, “Still of the Night”, “Is This Love,” and “The Deeper the Love”.

She was briefly married to Whitesnake’s lead singer, David Coverdale.

She also appeared in Ratt’s “Back for More” music video.

Kitaen marraige and personal life

Kitaen actually went on to marry the lead singer David Coverdale in 1989. They divorced only two years later however in 1991.

From there she moved on to baseball player Chuck Finley. That marriage lasted from 1997 to 2002 when Kitaen was charged with domestic violence for assaulting Finley. Apparently, she saw fit to kick him in the face over and over while wearing a pair of high-heeled shoes.

One could almost surmise that her career, pretty much at a plateau leading to an inevitable end, was a small part of what drove her to such an act.

Finley filed for divorce just three days later which isn’t too surprising.

After that Kitaen agreed to a plea bargain that would force her to enter a spousal battery counselling program.

She was also forced to avoid contact with Finley, despite the fact that they had two daughters together.
