Scotland’s first constituency has declared as counting continues across the country.
Councillor Jackie Dunbar emerges as the winner of the Aberdeen Donside for the SNP.
She took over 18,514 votes in the seat, with the Tories in second and Labour in third.
According to Thescotthishsun, The Conservatives are ‘worried’ about six seats that they could lose to the SNP.
If they lose all of those seats, Nicola Sturgeon would be set to win an overall majority.
SNP WIN! That’s the first SNP victory of the day!
— The SNP (@theSNP) May 7, 2021
Jackie Dunbar is from Aberdeen Scotland, she was selected for as the SNP candidate for Aberdeen Donside in the 2021 Scottish Parliament election.
She promised to continue to champion Aberdeen in our parliament, a city where our universities research has been at the forefront of this pandemic, Jackie said her city’s energy sector workers continue to keep her community all safe in their homes.
“Let’s work together and continue to keep Donside yellow, provide a strong voice for the North East, and fight for the people of Scotland to choose their own future.”
Political leaders arrive at counts as some results expected today
Alba Party leader Alex Salmond attended the count at the P&J Live arena in Aberdeen from the very start of counting at 9am on Friday.
The former first minister is top of his party’s North East Scotland regional list, with the hopes of creating a “supermajority” for independence in the next Scottish Parliament.
On Friday morning he stood at a table in the P&J Live venue with a clipboard as he observed peach regional list ballots being counted.
Both votes are being counted concurrently with the Aberdeen Donside constituency result expected first early on Friday afternoon – with the regional result not known until Saturday evening after receiving those figures from Aberdeenshire, Angus and Dundee.
Elsewhere, co-leader of the Scottish Green Party Patrick Harvie is on the scene at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, as votes continue to be counted.
Orkney was retained by the Lib Dems’ Liam McArthur who took 7,238 votes, with the SNP in second and the Tories in third.
Polls closed last night at 10 pm after millions across the country braved the weather to cast their vote.
But the nation won’t find out the results overnight, with counting delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Votes in some 46 of the 73 constituency seats will be counted from about 9 am on Friday, with the first results expected from noon.
It is anticipated all 46 should be declared by Friday evening.
Then, from about 9am on Saturday, the remaining 27 constituency seats will be counted, after which the regional seats will be allocated.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there is a staggered tallying up of ballots for the 2021 Holyrood election, with all results expected to be declared by Saturday evening.
Normally, counting begins immediately after the polls close at 10 pm and continue overnight, with results confirmed in the early hours.
But the need for social distancing among count staff has meant votes will be tallied from Friday.
This year’s election, while conducted under the constraints of coronavirus rules, is also considered to be one of the most important since the Scottish Parliament opened in 1999.
