Rail yard in San Jose shooting: Multiple persons killed and the shooter reported dead

The shooting that broke out at a rail yard in San Jose left several dead and several injured; the suspect is dead, authorities confirmed at a press briefing.

Police cannot confirm the number of deaths at this time. Employees of the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), which is responsible for public transportation in Santa Clara County, are believed to be among the victims.

The identity of the suspect and his motivations remain unknown for the moment.

 

At approximately 11:10 am, the Santa Clara County Sheriff had indicated that the shooter had been neutralized.

The mother of a local employee let Fox News know her son had taken refuge in a nearby auditorium. The shooting allegedly broke out during a union meeting.

The union has not made a statement on this matter.

A shooting at the VTA facility on Younger St has left several people being treated, but the situation is still being assessed. The shooter is no longer a threat, and the facility has been evacuated. I will update as more information becomes available.
