The Ministry of Mobility announced that this Wednesday, May 19, the measurement of the peak and plate will not be implemented in the Colombian capital. Private vehicles and taxis may be mobilized without any restriction.
The decision was made in order to facilitate the mobility of citizens who have been obliged to resort to alternative transport due to the effects on the Integrated Public Transport System (SITP) and Transmilenio, due to the protests that have been going on since last 28 April in the national territory.
This is the second time that the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá has made the decision to temporarily suspend the pick and plate for taxis and individuals. The first time was from May 5 to May 8 due to the riots in the capital.
For its part, the district pointed out that, “the restriction on Collective Public Transport vehicles – Provisional SITP continues to be suspended due to public calamity due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, in accordance with article 6 of Decree 073 of 2021 ” .
The restriction of the peak and plate will be in force from Thursday, May 20, on its usual days and times, between 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and between 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Thursday May 20: 0 – 2 – 4 – 6 – 8.
Friday May 21: 1 – 3 – 5 – 7 – 9.
In this context, the District Mobility Secretariat said that it has been working in a coordinated manner with the Bogotá Metropolitan Traffic Police to verify behaviors that violate peak and plate measures.
It should be noted that the Unemployment Committee called a new mobilization for next May 19, in addition to those that have been carried out permanently since last April 28. Likewise, he invited to strengthen and constitute committees in all cities and municipalities, as well as to maintain the protests.
According to the committee, the demonstrations will continue and there will be no negotiation table until there is agreement on the first petitions on the social protest raised by the committee members, who affirmed that they do not pretend to represent all the sectors that are in the streets. , and asked to hold meetings with young people and in all regions of the country.
For his part, President Iván Duque ordered the full deployment of the operational capacity of the public force to unblock the roads throughout the country due to the national strike. This function should be supported by the mayors and governors so that effective mobilization is guaranteed and the problem of shortages is curbed.
“In our country there is a constitutional foundation for peaceful protest which is always guaranteed and it is the duty of the state to allow its development, but we have seen roadblocks that have affected millions of citizens, we have seen millions affected in their mobility and the impact that they have brought to the circulation of food ” , said the president.
