A beachfront house collapse has injured 9 people in California.
The incident which happened at approximately 5 p.m. (local time) on Saturday afternoon had the victims plummet approximately 5 meters onto the rocky shoreline below.
The whole drama took place at an oceanfront home just off the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California, according to our Los Angeles sister station, KABC.
“there were probably like 10 people on the back deck and we heard a creak and I literally saw all my best friends and my girlfriend fall 15 feet onto the rocks,” said a man who spoke to KABC about the accident.
“It is a strange accident. Like, I don’t know, I don’t know how that happens. I don’t know how that happens. So, everything happens very fast . The platform literally just gave up. ” Witnesses say the group had gathered at the home on Saturday for a birthday party when the deck collapsed.
Local authorities reported that the rig’s integrity combined with the weight of too many people likely caused it to bend and send victims crashing into rocks, according to a KABC report. A total of nine people were injured in the collapse, including four who were taken for treatment at the hospital.
Authorities have not disclosed the extent of the injuries sustained in the crash, but none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening to those on the balcony. “We’re looking at roughly 10 to 15 feet … Down there are jagged rocks, big rocks, so it’s a very dangerous situation and thankfully no one was seriously injured or killed in this situation, ” Capt. Ron Haral said. Los Angeles County.
The Malibu Fire Department reported that it will send construction and safety inspectors who will assess the scene of the accident and determine if there is any structural damage to the house. ”It could have been a lot worse. But it’s pretty horrible, ”a man told KABC media.
On the other hand, crowds have had similar accidents in other parts of the world. Well, a tragic accident that went around the world left 45 people dead in a stampede produced during an Orthodox Jewish pilgrimage in northern Israel, in the largest mass event since the start of the Covid pandemic in the country.
“We counted 38 dead in the place but there are others in the hospital,” a spokesman for the Magen David Adom – Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross – told AFP .
For its part, the Ziv hospital, one of the centers where the victims were transferred, said it had recorded six deaths, so the provisional balance rose to 44 deaths . This Friday one of the injured died: the total rose to 45 dead .
As the hours go by, the balance increases. Rescuers announced “dozens” of deaths and serious injuries in this tragedy that occurred on Mount Meron.
In the middle of the night, ambulance sirens howled near the theater of the tragedy as first responders evacuated lifeless and wounded bodies.
Rescuers had initially said that a bleacher had collapsed to explain the injuries, before speaking of a gigantic “stampede” .
