#JusticeForLindaniMyeni trends on Twitter following the death of a South African man residing in Hawaii who was shot dead by the police on Wednesday night.
The 29-year-old Lindani Myeni was shot in Honolulu by police officers outside a Nuuanu home on Wednesday night during an alleged burglary.
In a 32 seconds video shared online visuals of lights illuminated from the police torch lights and another from the house they raided, the visuals show officers arriving at the scene of a reported burglary to a woman, who HPD said likely called 911, yelling about a man who had allegedly just been inside.
Myeni, the suspect, can first be seen in the videos standing in a parking area on the property. Initially, he was not aggressive toward the police, but he did not respond to their commands.
A police officer ordered Myeni to “get on the ground” multiple times, but he did not comply. Myeni, who was apparently unarmed, can then be seen walking toward the officer and attacking him; a second officer arrived and deployed his Taser.
Police said the Taser did not stop Myeni, who then attacked the officer who used it. An officer then fired the first shot of the encounter. It’s not clear whether it hit anyone, but the encounter continued.
The footage then shows Myeni attacking an officer who was on the ground before a third officer fired his gun three times at him.
Messages of condolences are continuing to pour in for former KwaZulu-Natal rugby player, Lindani Myeni, who was fatally shot by police in Honolulu in the US state of Hawaii.

Twenty nine-year Myeni, who hails from Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal, was shot in a confrontation with police after they responded to a burglary in progress.
Police say that Myeni who lived nearby, allegedly followed a woman to her home and exhibited strange behaviour. They also say that when they arrived at the home, he charged at the officers.
However, in a Facebook post, his widow Lindsay Myeni says her husband had gone out for a drive after a fun family day. She says he was only gone for 18 minutes when she received the news that her husband had been shot four times.
Jaguar’s rugby club vice-chairperson Onwhinne Hindley says Myeni was a gentle giant with a heart of gold.
“Because he was such a gentle soul and a gentle giant and very well respected in the rugby fraternity and he was truly a gentlemen and very respected, very calm and a very passive character. He will be sorely missed and we really pass on our condolences out to his family his wife and his two kids and obviously his family here in Durban. May his soul rest in peace,” says Hindley.
