Daunte Wright: Death Of 20-Year-Old Black Man Killed By Police Triggers Protest!



Heavy protest erupted late Sunday night after a black man identified as Daunte Wright was shot and killed by police in the Minneapolis Surb of Brooklyn during a traffic stop.

Though the police have not said anything about what led to the shooting but Daunte’s mother, Katie Wright told journalists at the scene of the incident that his son was stopped by the police because of an air freshener that was hanged in his car.

Explaining part of what happened, Dontae Wright mother, said his son had called her around 1:30 to inform her of what was going.

“He called me at about 1:30. He said he was getting pulled over by the police. And I said why you getting pulled over. And he said they pulled him over because he had air fresheners hanging from his rear-view mirror. I said, ‘OK take them down, I could hear a scuffle break out and I heard someone shouting… Daunte, don’t run but when I called back to hear from him he was dead already’” Katie said.

Brooklyn Police Releases Statement About The Shooting, Says The Stop In Question Occurred In Brooklyn Center and Not Plymouth

The police have released an official statement in regards to the fatal shooting confirming officers initiated a stop for a traffic violation. Part of the statement quoted that Daubte Wright, who was the driver of the vehicle had an outstanding warrant.

An investigation is underway following an incident earlier today during which one person died.

Brooklyn Center Police Department officers initiated a stop for a traffic violation in the area of the 6300 block of Orchard Ave, in Brooklyn Center shortly before 2 p.m, Sunday.

Officer determined that the driver of the vehicle had an outstanding warrant. At one point as officers were attempting to take the driver into custody, the driver re-entered the vehicle.

One officer discharged their firearm, striking the driver. The vehicle travelled several blocks before striking another vehicle.

Officer in pursuit and responding medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the person died at the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office will release the person’s name following a preliminary autopsy and family notifications.

A female passenger in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the crash. She was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale.

Here is bodycam footage showing #DuanteWright trying to escape an arrest & getting shot by a female officer. He ended up crashing into another occupied car & dying. The BPPD police chief says it appears the officer meant to use a taser but accidentally used her pistol.

He was in the process of getting arrested by BPPD for a weapons charge & escaping police before he was killed yesterday, sparking #BLM race rioting & looting. The criminal complaint says he had an illegal Ruger 45 pistol. He skipped his court date this month.
