A court has sentenced a 16-year-old KwaZulu-Natal high school student to three months in prison for missing court appearances.

According to eNCA, the young girl was accused of attacking her classmate last year. The attack was filmed on video and it spread on social networks like wildfire.

The Kwazulu-Natal Education Department welcomed the verdict, saying it will deal with many school violence.

Speaking on this on Tuesday was spokesman Muzi Mahlambi who said “We are not saying we are happy to send children to prison, but they need to understand that they are hurting their students,”.

Authorities say despite the campaign to stop bullying many people chose to disregard it.
