Man charged to court for allegedly beating his 3-year-old daughter to death in Lagos

A Nigerian man by name Patrick Akpan has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Lagos for allegedly beating his 3-year-old daughter to death.

The 35-year-old father who is a security guard on December 27, 2020, reported having beaten his little three-year-old daughter to death with a belt for messing up his house.

The police said that the victim died in her mother’s arms while being taken to the hospital

The prosecution counsel, ASP Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that Akpan committed the offence in Jakande Estate, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

According to ASP Thomas, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 224 and is punishable under section 229 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. (Revised).

The Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka did not take the plea of Akpan for want in the jurisdiction. Nwaka ordered that the case file be duplicated and a copy sent to the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
