Syl Sylvain, 1951-2021. The heart of the New York Dolls, responsible for the best of David Jo’s solo material, and his own records were unfailingly soulful. Truth and Soul-that was the name of Syl’s fashion line and an apt description of his music too. Sleep well, baby doll. pic.twitter.com/7pWQ8jyFge

Sylvain was born in Cairo, Egypt, to a Jewish family, but his family fled in the 1950s, first to France and finally to New York, United States. The Mizrahis lived first on Lafayette Avenue in Buffalo, New York, but later moved to the New York City neighbourhood of Rego Park, Queens, while he was still a child. Sylvain has dyslexia.
He attended Newtown High School in Queens and Quintano’s School for Young Professionals in Manhattan.
Prior to joining the New York Dolls, Sylvain and future New York Doll bandmate Billy Murcia ran a clothing company called “Truth and Soul,” which helped define his fashion sense and would play a role in the band’s groundbreaking look.
He has one brother, Leon (deceased), and one sister, Brigitte.
Sylvain helped create New York dolls, lived for about three years, and created music that helped lay the groundwork for punk. Then, over the next three years, they broke free from addiction.
They never became a kind of star selling stars, they won singles, but they became a different kind of star.
Now Sylvain has a very good autobiography. There are no bones in ice cream. Sylvain Sylvain’s story about New York dolls tells not only about dolls, but also what has gone before.
The Mizrahi family fled Nasser from Egypt to Paris in the 1950s, then to the United States; his childhood obsession with rock & roll; As a fashion career, he refused to play the guitar with dolls.
In 2012, He released the single “Leaving New York,” which would be his last musical outing.
