Few Things You Need To Know About Jeff Giosi

Jeff made his way to West Virginia via Long Island, NY. He came to West Virginia University as a Track & Field decathlete, where he earned All Big East Honors and also won a world title in natural bodybuilding. It was during his experience as a collegiate athlete that Jeff fell in love with the field of Strength & Conditioning.

During Jeff’s sophomore year, he began interning under his world renowned Strength Coach, Mike Barwis. He then graduated from W.V.U. with a B.S. in Physical Education/ Teacher Education Degree and a Master’s Degree in Strength & Conditioning. During his graduate tenure he worked with football, track, cheer, and basketball teams along with various other sports. Upon graduation he was offered an Assistant Strength Coach position at W.V.U. working with men’s and women’s basketball.

This position made him the youngest Strength & Conditioning coach in the country. During his four years with those programs, W.V.U. hoops went to the Elite 8, Sweet 16 (twice!), won the N.I.T. and made trips to the N.C.A.A.s and W.N.I.T.

Tributes

Jim Matuga wrote – Today the world lost a most valuable brother, husband, father, son, mentor, coach, friend, and leader. Jeff Giosi I am so saddened by your passing. But I know you were a strong believer and know that you are with Jesus right now. As I was going through some pictures, I couldn’t help but think what a huge influence you’ve made in my life. My heart breaks for everyone you loved and who loves you. As you would often text me: “I Love You Brother!” Thank you Jeff. Friendship. Love. Loyalty.

Jerry Handley wrote – Some things will just never make sense, and today has been the peak of that melancholy and sadness.
Rest in Eternal Heaven to my brother Jeff Giosi. While close over the years on the WVU Strength Staff, I’ll never forget the two years you slept on my couch while Achilles bounced back and forth between there or sleeping on my face.

You did more for me in that time than I could have hoped to do in a hundred years. The one friend I had to go to about the hardest things, that was you. When I decided to make a dream and create Viking, you were right there.

Midnight lifts, midnight espresso shots and Starbucks, and philosophical conversations about the Bible or Spartans – about men.
“Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.”
You were one of the best men in this world, and you were living your best life with the best family. Rest In Peace, my friend – I will see you every day and every night.

Joey Swearingen wrote – Words can’t describe the loss for people that were close to Jeff Giosi. He radiated love and positivity, and he just made everyone around him better. He was a goofball one minute, and the next minute you were in a super-deep conversation with him. To me, he was a coach, a mentor, a friend, and most importantly, a brother! And I’m sure he was more to many others.

Rob Summers wrote – So sad to hear about my former college strength coach Jeff Giosi passing away. He not only was great at what he did with us in the weight room but just having talks with him outside of sports was so awesome for a young athlete who was away from home in morgantown. To say He was a great man would be an understatement. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. Rest easy my man.
