The Port Vale FC has announced that legendary player, John Jeffers is dead. John was reported to have died today at the age of 52 after a brief illness.

The club took to their official Facebook page to announce the news.

Everyone at Port Vale Football Club was saddened to learn that former winger John Jeffers has passed away at the age of 52, We would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, they wrote.

The retired footballer started his footballing career in 1986 with Liverpool after turning professional at Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish but was later sold to Port Vale in February 1989 for a in February 1989 for a £30,000 fee.

During his playing time, John who played left-winger, scored 17 goals in 240 league appearances.
