Portland Photographer, Steve Terrill Has Passed Away

Popular Portland self-taught Photographer, Steve Terrill has passed away. Steve Terrill was reported to have died over the weekend. Sadly, Steve died on January 5th, a month after an organ transplant.

Steve, a native of Portland, Oregon was popularly known for the excellent coast calendars he produced and his photos of the world in a drop of water. His career began in April 1980 when he was hired by Beautiful American Publishing as one of their staff photographers.

He skyrocketed to fame when he captured the eruption of Mt, St. Helens on the morning of May 18, 1980. Later that same year, One of Steve’s photographs of the eruption was presented to President Jimmy Carter while he was in the Northwest to view the destruction caused by Mt. St. Helens.

Reacting to Steve’s death, The Art on the Boulevard wrote via their official Facebook page – It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that one of our beloved artists, the brilliant Steve Terrill passed away last week. Steve touched so many peoples lives with his photography and if you ever had a chance to meet Steve you knew what an incredibly kind person he was. We will miss Steve’s amazing talent, his laugh that could lift anyone’s spirits, his incredible stories, but most of all we will miss the generous and kind soul that he was. Our sincerest condolences go out to Steve’s wife Georjean and all of the Terrill family.
