Former Freestyle Motorcyle Rider, Chris Ackerman Has Passed Away

Freestyle motocross, FMX, Chris Ackerman has passed away. Chris Ackerman was reported to have died today January 14 2021.

He is a consultant for Deegan’s apparel firm, Metal Mulisha.

The Metal Mulisha took to their official Facebook page to announce that Chris Ackerman has passed on but didn’t reveal cause of his death.

Via their official Facebook page they wrote – Our heart is heavy and words can’t describe how difficult this moment is with the loss of Chris Ackerman. Our heart goes out to his family, friends and to everyone who loved Chris. He has been with Mulisha since the beginning. Building #MetalMulisha, mentoring and helping so many others. A true OG in the sport and respected by so many. Today his legacy has come to an end. We are deeply honored and blessed to have known Chris and may he live with us in spirt forever. We love you Chris.

Chris Ackerman Accident in 2003

Chris Ackerman suffered a freestyle accident in 2003 at Dumont Dunes that potentially could have taken his life. He sustained a broken wrist, dislocated shoulders, collapsed lungs, shattered pelvis, broken ribs and a C-2 spinal cord injury that left him a quadriplegic.

After the accident, Chris Ackerman, a former rider who paralyzed and was on a ventilator as a result of a crash while practicing jumps with Deegan and other pros in 2003.

Ackerman and the others were being filmed in the Dumont Dunes section of the Mojave Desert for a television special and photographed for a magazine series about the 10 best freestyle jumping desert spots when Ackerman, a recreational jumper, crashed into an unseen 40-foot-deep sand canyon. He snapped a vertebra near the top of his spinal column and was left to gasp for life for 90 minutes until emergency help arrived.
