“I will reform the diplomatic service” – Albanian foreign minister Olta Xhaçka takes office



Prime Minister Edi Rama held a press conference, together with the new Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka and the resigned Minister, Gent Cakaj.

Xhaçka, in her speech as a minister, said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should shine, as it is a reflection of the Albanian state in the eyes of the world.

“It was a dramatic year,” he said. I want to thank Prime Minister Rama and I have respect for Cakaj, for the professionalism to show him in office. I am privileged to have advisers for both of you (Rama and Cakaj). Your work makes my job a lot easier.

I do not have to invent the wheel, on the contrary. But, I will not be satisfied with what the ministers have done before, but to work as much as possible for our country. I will reform our diplomatic service. This ministry should shine in every direction because Albania is second in the world. “Our country should also shine in the Security Council”, said Xhaçka.

Olta Xhaçka underlined that it is a great honour for her, the fact that she has been entrusted with the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, adding that she will try to fulfil her duty.

“It is a great honor for me to be entrusted with this task, I am grateful to the Prime Minister and the parliament. This debt that I owe to the Prime Minister and the Parliament of my country, I will try to pay off with work. I will be objective so that there are no problems in this ministry. May this year be successful, even in diplomacy. “I will do my best to advance what Cakaj and the Prime Minister have achieved,” Xhaçka declared.

Olta Xhaçka was born on 25 December 1979. She is an Albanian politician and Socialist Party member of Parliament.

Olta served as Albanian Minister of Social Welfare and Youth between March 2017 to August 2017 and as Minister of Defense from September 2017 to December 2020.

She received a bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations from Clark University with honors, as well as an MPA.

Since 2009, Ms. Olta Xhaçka has been a member of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, initially as a representative of the Korça region, in both legislatures.

Prior to her involvement in politics, Ms. Olta Xhaçka was actively involved in civil society, human rights, and good governance. She worked for three years as a lecturer in political science at New York University in Tirana.

As a human rights activist, mainly in the field of gender equality. Member of the commission.

Since 2010, Ms. Ha Achok has been a member of the Presidency of the Socialist Party Chair of the Socialist Women’s Forum. From 2015 to 2017, after being appointed to the Government of Albania, she chaired the Emal Emal Stafa Foundation.
