Liverpool’s Negative Trends, Clumsy at Southampton’s cage

Liverpool lost their second in the 2020/2021 Premier League. The Reds were defeated by Southampton 0-1 in Week 17 at St. Petersburg. Mary’s Stadium, Monday evening local time or Tuesday early morning WIB. Liverpool failed to earn perfect points in the last three Premier League matches this season after beating Crystal Palace 7-0.

Before being defeated by Southampton, the Reds were held by West Bromwich Albion 1-1 and Newcastle United 0-0.

Against Southampton, former Liverpool player Danny Ings became a nightmare for Juergen Klopp’s squad.

James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick was completed with Ings’ superb strike to put Southampton ahead in the second minute.

Danny Ings’ goal was the only one that was created in that match. In the second half, no goals were scored even though Livescore statistics recorded Liverpool had control of the ball by 67%.

The Reds lacked shots on target, only one shot totalled the target, and there were 11 shots wide.

Liverpool’s first shot on target of the match came in the 75th minute, thanks to an attempt by Sadio Mane. Opta notes, this is their longest wait for an attempt on target in a Premier League match since December 2015 (89th minute vs Newcastle).

Meanwhile, the hosts scored two shots on target with one goal. Only three shots missed Southampton.

With this result, Liverpool’s position at the top of the standings is threatened. Although they still top the standings with 33 points, that number is equivalent to Manchester United in second place by saving one game.

Leicester City, which is ranked 3, is only one point behind. Southampton, which is perched in 6th place, are only four points adrift of Liverpool.
