Award-winning author and Wildlife television producer Miles Barton has died. Miles died a few weeks ago, although this has not been confirmed.
He was born on July 20, 1959, in London, England.
Miles was a producer and director best known for Blue Planet II (2017), Attenborough and the Giant Dinosaur (2016) and Zoo Quest in Color (2016).
She was married to Alex Hulm. He died on November 24, 2020.
Miles was one of Britain’s leading wildlife television personalities and worked closely with Sir David Attenborough for more than 25 years, turning their shared passion for reptiles into a Bafta Award-winning series Cold Blood (2008).
In 2012, he prepared a three-part retrospective: “Attenborough. 60 years in the wild “, in which the veteran TV presenter looked back on his long and bright career.
He spent most of his 35-year career at the BBC’s Bristol Department of Natural History, working on some of its most popular programs, including “BirdLife”, “Planet Blue II” and the Emmy Award-winning Frozen Planet.
He helped ensure that the unit’s output was always of a very high standard, contributing to its worldwide success.
His father, Don, was a quantum explorer. His mother, Jean Ann (surname Leonard), was a secretary who resigned to support the family until his early death, when Miles was 21 years old.
He attended the Forest School on the outskirts of Epping Forest, where he became involved in drama, and studied animal science at the University of Nottingham, graduating in 1980.
Miles began his career as a doctor of calf behavior at the University of Reading, where, as an “instant Essex boy”, he stood out among his students, who were mostly of rural agricultural background. He pursued his other passion by moving performances to Edinburgh.
After leaving his postgraduate studies, he started working as a BBC radio presenter in London, where he did research and medical programs. In the mid-1980s, he moved to the Natural History Department, where he met his future wife, Alex Halmi. They married in 1994, and he became the stepfather of his son Matthew. In 1996, a daughter, Lois, was born.
In the mid-1990s, Miles began his long association with Attenborough, producing three episodes of Bird Life, which aired in 1998.
He later took a new job as a producer on the series Wild New World (2002), which starred in the prehistoric wildlife of North America, followed by the Journey of Life (2005), which tells the story of evolution. Both series used state-of-the-art computer graphics to recreate sequences that would otherwise have been impossible to demonstrate.
He also produced the first episode of Springwatch, which aired before the main series in early 2005.
