Alicia Tran Wrote – My heart truly hurts to hear that Dr. Hemant Kairam passed away. Dr. Kairam was a pediatrician I met during a @handsupforhaiti pediatric medical mission trip in 2018. Serving in Haiti is definitely a humbling experience and meeting experienced & inspiring HUFH staff made it even more humbling. In the one week I got to work alongside Dr. Kairam, he was so kind, encouraging and humble.
It was obvious he truly cared about serving the communities in Haiti and using his knowledge for good. He served in Haiti as early as 2010 post Haiti’s devastating earthquake. I still remember our conversations to this day where him and Dr. Alex encouraged me to apply for medical school since I didn’t know what to do with my possible pharmacy major change.
It’s still crazy to me to this day that someone could see so much potential in me. Although I won’t be applying to medical school, it’s people like Dr. Kairam that motivate me to use my future profession in public health to serve patients compassionately and globally. Thank you for being such a servant leader Dr. Kairam. Thank you for inspiring so many of us. The HUFH family will most definitely miss you. You will be missed greatly and I’m praying for you and your loved ones.
