Antique retailer and expert David Bathey reportedly dies
The news of his death was made public when, at the end of a special program on Sunday evening, when Fiona Bruce paid tribute to him during a one-off edition of Antiques Roadshow entitled What Happened Next?
Battie as it turned out that one of the original faces of the BBC show was retiring, so he resigned from his role.
David Battie FRSA was born in 1942. On October 22. He was a specialist in British ceramics, with a particular emphasis on Japanese-Chinese artefacts.
After attending art school, where he studied graphic design, Bati joined Reader’s Digest for three years. In 1965 he joined Sotheby’s auction house.
There he worked in the departments of Oriental pottery and was appointed director in 1976. In 1999, he left Sotheby’s.
The expert has been involved in the program since 43 years ago, in 1977, the first series aired on BBC Two.
In the end, he did not appear on the show, offering guests an in-country rating of their valuable possessions.
It turned out that David had decided to leave his profession, and Fiona broke the news as many colleagues paid tribute to the success of their co-chair over the past four decades.
At the end of the program, the newsreader said: “We said goodbye to David Butty, who retired from the Antiques Roadshow family right from the start.
“After 40 years of hard work, he deserves a rest,” he continued before editing videos of the best moments of ceramic lovers.
In 2012, after a simple fall, Battie broke his leg while leaving for Norwich to perform.
He was hospitalized in Brighton for six months, after which he contracted an infection that is resistant to all antibiotics.
He underwent over eight surgeries. including four skin grafts, three of which failed. He estimated that he had taken 1,300,000 mg of analgesic paracetamol since the accident.
Batti suffers from a genetic disorder called hemochromatosis and has developed type 2 diabetes.
