What will be the fate of Manchester City after their two players tested Positive for Coronavirus ahead of Boxing Day Match

The coronavirus pandemic has not yet subsided in the world. Even so in the UK where there are reportedly mutations from the coronavirus. The latest bad news comes from two Manchester City players who have tested positive to the virus ahead of boxing day match.

According to the official Man City website, two club players Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker and two other staff are positive for coronavirus. The four of them will undergo self-isolation and protocols established by the Premier League and the British Government.

“Manchester City FC can confirm that Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker and two staff members have tested positive for Covid-19, “said a statement from the official Manchester City website.

“The four personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League protocol and British Government protocol on quarantine.”

“Everyone at the club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery over the Christmas period before they return to work, training and competing.”

The absence of the two players it is clearly seen as a ‘blow’ for Pep Guardiola. Kyle Walker who is a mainstay right-back who often plays regularly at City, while Jesus is the top choice in front as Sergio Aguero is just recovering from injury.

In the two closest matches in the festive period City will face Newcastle United (27/12) in boxing day and Everton (29/12). Recovery time from corona usually takes two weeks or more.

This season Gabriel Jesus has played 11 times in all competitions with a record four goals (two in the Premier League). Walker has appeared 18 times in all competitions and 12 of them in the Premier League.

Man City is currently in eighth place in the standings with 23 points from 13 matches. The Citizens are three points adrift of Everton who are fourth in the standings, aka the Champions League zone.
