Legendary Celtics player, coach K.C. Jones dies at the age of 88yrs


Legendary Celtics player, coach K.C. John dies at the age of 88. He has been an NBA champion 12 times.


Jones took a personal victory as a tough-nosed goalkeeper, and then the Boston Celtics coach died during his Hall of Fame career, the Celtics confirmed on Friday.

He played 9 seasons in the NBA, all of them as part of the Celtics, and won titles in eight of them. This is the third time in the history of the championship, only behind long-time teammates Bill Russell (11) and Sam Jones (10).

That success shifted to coaching days when he won three titles (one as an assistant, two as a head coach) during Boston’s success in the 1980s with Larry Bird and Co.

Although he was not shocking, his playing days were not filled with shouting statistics. He has averaged only 7.4 points in his career.

But the 6-foot-1 Guard was the perfect team player whose defense fitted in with rival stars like Jerry West’s Oscar Robertson, whose roster forced the Celtics engine to start.

Ones played college basketball at the University of San Francisco, along with Bill Russell.

He also played for Russell in the United States team, which won a gold medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in Australia.

After graduating from college and joining the NBA, Jones considered an NFL player career and even tried out for the team.

However, he was unable to make the cut. During his playing days, he was known as a stubborn defender. Nine ounce spent all nine seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, playing for eight league teams from 1959-1966.

Jones with Russell, Magic John Onson, Michael Jordan’s son, rys Lucas, Clyde Lovlet, Quinn Buckner and Anthony Dice are the only players in history to have won the NCAA Championship, NBA Championship and Olympic gold medal.

Former Celtics point guard and coach K.C. Jones has died, the team confirmed Friday.

He won eight titles in nine seasons with the Celtics, the third-most in league history. He also won three titles (two as a head coach) during the ’80s.

Jones, a college teammate of Bill Russell at the University of San Francisco, where they won two NCAA titles, won 12 NBA championships — 11 with Boston: eight as a player, one as an assistant and two as a head coach.
