Frank Lampard’s Chelsea will appear more solid if Kai Havertz does not play. Is it true? At least that was what Jamie Carragher had to say.
The former Liverpool defender believes that Havertz has often become an obstacle to Chelsea’s gameplay. Indeed, at first Havertz’s presence received a good reception. Even Chelsea are being predicted as a team that has a terrifying attack line.
Havertz’s early performance was also very promising. He managed to record a hat-trick in his first match in a Chelsea uniform. However, after that, the contribution was less pronounced.
Not even a few think that Havertz could be Chelsea’s worst purchase in the summer of 2020.
Right now he’s having a hard time. It’s not easy coming to a new country. Of course, he had suffered from Covid at the start of the season. But I said it at the start of the season, sometimes players fall into that category when you are not sure where they fit to play, “said Carragher quoted by the Mirror.
According to Carragher Chelsea actually showed a better performance when Havertz was not playing.
“I think Frank (Lampard) is still not sure which position is suitable for Havertz. But he already spent a lot of money to bring in Havertz. So you have to keep trying to find a position, “Carragher continued.
Although he understands what Lampard is doing, who continues to try to find the right position for Havertz, Carragher believes that for now, Chelsea must focus on their strongest squad.
“For me, at the moment Chelsea look much stronger with N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount and one other player. What I mean by the other player is Jorginho or Kovacic, “said Carragher.
Then what about Havertz? As long as Lampard and Chelsea carry the 4-3-3 system, the German player is considered to be in trouble. Havertz himself sees himself as the number 10 player, whereas in a 4-3-3 that position is not available.
“I think Chelsea and Frank Lampard are waiting to see what type of player Havertz really is and where he will fit in in the long term. “Where he is in the 4-3-3 which looks like the formation that is Lampard’s choice,” added Carragher.
Havertz officially joined Chelsea in the summer transfer window 2020. Chelsea management recruited Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen for 80 million euros, or around IDR 1.3 trillion.
