Conor McGregor, a former UFC second division champion, has just saved his friend’s gym in Ireland, Philip Mulpeter from bankruptcy, reported Sherdog.

Philip’s gym, SBG Portarlington, is located in County Laois, Ireland. The fitness centre, unable to bear the financial losses that will come due to the lockdown policy related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Tonight, we closed the door at the gym one last time. Unfortunately, we were forced to close our gym. The Covid pandemic has been very tough for all of us, and we can no longer keep the gym going, ”said Philip Mulpeter when planning to close his gym, reported by Sharedog.

He also wished that after the closure he could rebuild the SBG Portarlington when the vaccine was launched and everyone’s lives would return to normal.

But before he actually closed SBG Portarlington, Conor McGregor came and provided assistance to his friend and former training partner. Conor tells Mulpeter that he will send enough money so that the gym won’t go bankrupt.

Although Philip Mulpeter did not disclose the exact amount of assistance the Irish fighter was providing, he did tell ESPN that “it will be sufficient for the next one or two years”.

“I almost cried there (in the gym),” Mulpeter told ESPN quoted from Sharedog. “Honestly, I don’t know what to say to him. I’m forever grateful to him, he basically saved our little community, “he said.

Mulpeter also revealed that although McGregor often gets bad news, he also does good things all the time without looking for gratitude, let alone asking the media to spread his kindness.

Mulpeter and McGregor became friends while training together at SBG Ireland in 2008. McGregor has also promised to retain Gaelic Atlantic Martial Arts, an amateur promotion of MMA and jiu-jitsu run by Mulpeter.

Conor McGregor is currently training in Portugal, for his rematch with Dustin Piorier at UFC 257 on 23 January.
