Antoine Griezmann, who plays with Barcelona, a French soccer team and a strong Spanish club, used the face recognition technology of Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei to suppress human rights in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on the 10th.
It has announced that it will immediately terminate its advertising contract with the company, saying it has strong suspicions. In a statement posted on the photo-sharing app Instagram, Griesman told Huawei, “Rather than denying Huawei, he immediately condemned collective crackdowns and used his influence to respect human rights.
Take action. “Huawei has announced that it will immediately terminate its advertising contract with the company, saying it is strongly suspected that its face recognition technology is being used to crackdown on human rights in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
In a statement posted on Instagram, a photo-sharing app, Griesman told Huawei,
“Rather than denying Huawei, we immediately blame collective crackdowns and use our influence to respect human rights. Take action. ”
China has come under intense international criticism over its policies in the resource-rich Xinjiang territory, where rights groups say as many as one million Uighurs and other mostly Muslim minorities have been held in internment camps.
China defends the camps as vocational training centres aimed at stamping out terrorism and improving employment opportunities.
Griezmann, a 29-year-old forward who was one of the leading members of the France team that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has been a Huawei brand ambassador since 2017.
He has featured prominently in a giant advertising campaign for the company in France.
In his post on Thursday, the Barcelona forward urged Huawei “not to be content with denying the accusations but to urgently take concrete steps to condemn this mass repression and use its influence to contribute to the respect of the rights of men and women”.
