The self-proclaimed prophet Pastor Bushiri and his wife Mary have left South Africa and are now in Malawi, disregarding the terms of their bail.

In a statement posted on Bushiri’s official Facebook page, he said that they had left for security reasons, that despite reporting to the police, there was no protection from the state.

“There have been clear and evident attempts to have myself, my wife and my family killed and despite our several attempts to report to authorities, there has never been state protection, he said.

“Our coming to Malawi, hence, is a tactical withdrawal from the Republic of South Africa solely meant to preserve our lives.”

Earlier this month, Bushiri and his wife Marry where released on bail of R200,000, and the magistrate ruled that they were not in danger of flying.

The couple is accused of money laundering, blaming the state for dragging their feet that they are not allowed to clear their names.

Bushiri claimed that he and his wife were being persecuted in South Africa.

The couple were not allowed to leave the country, every Friday and Monday they had to report to the nearest police station.

The national prosecutor’s office could not confirm whether they had left the country.
