Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, former chief rabbi of Great Britain Has Passed Away

Information that has flooded the social media today has it that Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, former chief rabbi of Great Britain, has passed away. According to the information posted on his Twitter handle Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks (HaRav Ya’akov Zvi ben David Arieh z’’l) died in the early hours of today, Saturday 7th November 2020 (Shabbat Kodesh 20th MarCheshvan 5781).

The Tweet Read: Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet. It with the deepest sadness that we regret to inform you that Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks (HaRav Ya’akov Zvi ben David Arieh z’’l) passed away early this morning, Saturday 7th November 2020 (Shabbat Kodesh 20th MarCheshvan 5781).

Recall that Sacks was diagnosed with cancer in October. He served as the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth from 1991 to 2013, succeeding Immanuel Jakobovits. He was succeeded by the current chief rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis.
For those who wish to include the rabbi in their prayers, his Hebrew name is Harav Ya’akov Zvi ben Liba.
