Bahrain King, Sheikh Khalifa, Have Passed Away- Few Things You Need To Know About Him

Bahrain prime minister Sheikh Khalifa, has passed away.

Sheikh Khalifa died Wednesday morning at a Mayo Clinic hospital in the United States, the Bahraini state news agency reported.

The funeral will take place upon the return of his body, and the funeral will be restricted to a certain number of relatives.

Official mourning has been announced for a week.

He has been Prime Minister since 1970, taking office on August 15, 1971, a year after Bahrain’s independence.

According to reports gathered, before his death, he was the longest-serving prime minister of any government in the world.

Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa was born on 28 January 1950 in Riffa, Bahrain. His parents were Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, then Crown Prince, and Hessa bint Salman Al Khalifa.

After attending Manama secondary school in Bahrain, Hamad was sent to England to attend Applegarth College in Godalming, Surrey before taking a place at The Leys School in Cambridge.

Hamad then underwent military training, first with the British Army at Mons Officer Cadet School at Aldershot in Hampshire, graduating in September 1968.

Four years later, in June 1972, Hamad attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, graduating the following June with a degree in leadership.
